Pair of Italian Giltwood Rococo Mirrors
We have taken some photos of the backs of both mirrors to try to convey their age . Clearly, they are antique, but they seem to be quite unusual. We can find no other similar pair from the many available. The carving is crisp, the gilding is well applied. When first acquired we had our gilder touch up the gilding. They are well designed and skillfully executed, the beveled edges of the shaped mirrors add an additional elegance. We feel the beveled mirrors are a later addition but the gilt wood shows earlier construction. They show signs of early repair work, consistent with such delicate workmanship and age.
They were acquired in Ottawa, the capital of Canada may well have originally been from one of the Embassies.
