A Samson Ginger Jar and Cover

This copies a Chinese export example in the famille rose palette. Painted with flowery sprays and gilt and with a bold finial modelled as a Kylin.  On a later ebonised wooden stand. 

Vessels of this specific form decorated in a Famille Rose floral palette with international armorial
crests represent Chinese Export Porcelain style. While original imperial or aristocratic services were
commissioned from Canton during the 18th century, many well-known European porcelain houses-most
notably Edme Samson of Paris during the 19th and early 20th centuries-specialized in creating
highly accurate and beautiful reproductions of these historic French royal export wares.
