Charles Sillam Lidderdale, the Letter, Oil on Canvas, Portrait of a Young Lady

Charles Sillem Lidderdale 1831-1895 was an enthusiastic painter of young women, from sunburned country girls to rather distainful young ladies, the former dressed in working clothes, the latter in finery. This study gives him an opportunity to show his skill in painting a silk hat. The sitter is unusually pretty, which caught my eye and has an agreeable expression, more sensitive than haughty. She is clearly conducting a romance.
He exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy and was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists.
This signed in monogram.
