This small silver chamberstick, though of uncertain origin, is very much in the style of the early part of the eighteenth century. It has a pleasingly simple form, The reeded octagonal base is centered by the candlestick proper and has an applied ring handle. It is crested with a Lion among billowing clouds (waves?) . It bears only one mark 2.17, presumably this is some kind of ancient weight.. With our scale it weighs 92 grams It was bought in Nova Scotia
It is a very elegant piece, well designed and carefully made. Chambersticks were used for hundreds of years and exist in many styles
We have not located anothe example iof this type.
