Pair of Petersen sterling Mid-Century Modern two-light candelabra, each raised on a circular stepped foot. The long tapering panelled sconces are supported on a curved band, applied with silver balls and a decorative arabesque.

Petersen was a colleague of Georg Jensen and fellow Dane. Each drew on a shared tradition of craftsmanship with their own interpretation. When it came to candelabra, Petersen seems to have favoured here a less naturalistic look. These have a line of great simplicity, the long slender asymetrical sconces are very unusual. In the photos you can see the meticulous martele handwork in both the sconces and the raised foot. Since Petersen worked in Montreal one would expect to find numerous such sets. However, this the only one we have seen in many years…which means they are rare.
