This superb desk is a copy of one made by Thomas Chippendale in 1766 for Sir Rowland Winn . The original masterpiece of English cabinetry is at his residence, Nostell Priory in Yorkshire. As the photos show it has a brown tooled leather writing surface above a kneehole drawer between cupboards with folio divisions and another with sliding trays, to each side, carved with fluting, rosettes, trailing festoons and garland decorations and the scrolled brackets with grotesques, on hairy paw and bracket feet.. It has the basic structure of a Partners desk without the necessity of a partner.
This is a desk in a million, a homage to the incomparable craftsman and designer. It is hard to imagine a circumstance in which this desk will not increase in value.
