This fine piece dates from the third quarter of the 19th century and has many of the characteristics of a period piece, although made later. The mahogany is exceptionally well-chosen, the bronze mounts are of high quality and well modelled. The desk has a gilt tooled red leather surface, and matching slides on both sides. (Unusually it has drawers on both sides too.) It is raised on shapely cabriole legs retaining their original sabots. It is an ideal size for both decorative appeal and usefulness. It is offered in excellent condition, a light polishing was all that was necessary.
