This tea caddy is of sarcophagus form, oblong with a raised panelled lid, painted with autumnal fruit and flowers. The exterior is brilliantly decorated in penwork with stylised flowers, the whole raised on bun feet. The exquisite beauty of the exterior is matched by the craftmanship of the interior. The inside of the lid is dated "Dec 1842". The twin boxes are fully decorated and with hinged covers. They flank a glass mixing bowl that is cut with flowers and stars.  It is both Victorian and unusually appropriate for such a fine box.
The caddy has a ring handle on either side. This a box of outstanding quality and completeness. It even retains the original key.
