These lanterns formerly graced the exterior of the City and District Savings Bank in Montreal. They are very large, and well-modelled. They are octagonal and with arcaded panels, above a frieze of stylised acanthus. Each panel is flanked by spiral fluted columns. They would be entirely suitable on either side of an imposing front door or courtyard. They are of heavy cast bronze with original milk glass panels. The finials are modelled as beehives, emblematic of industry and organisation. Charmingly, the bottom finial is modelled as an acorn, (from which developes the mighty oak). In the Neo- Renaissance taste, they reference a bygone age of solid yet unpretentious quality.
