A Superb Pair of Massive Second Empire Gilt Bronze five light wall sconces, in the Louis XVl taste, each vase- shaped body applied with masks and garlands, the scrolling arms are ribbed and the drip pans are spiral fluted, later electrified, after the model by Pierre-Philippe Thomire (French, 1751–1843).

The French Second Empire saw a revival of interest in the late 18th taste spearheaded by the Empress Eugenie who took a great interest in the style Furniture and decorations of a quality equal or superior to the 18th century originals were made by Pariisian craftsmen. Although these sconces are unsigned they are of the finest quality. We have not been able to attribute them to a particular maker , more research might prove fruitful.
