Early 20th Century Italia Alabaster Ewer Lamp on Stand

Grotesque alabaster ewer with spout in form of dragon's head, handle as winged serpent, over baluster shaped body with foliate framed cherub head, internally lit, raised on acanthus topped base: resting on stepped hexagonal column. Total height is 79".

This striking sculptural ewer is exuberantly modeled with sepent form handle and dragon form spout, the baluster body is carved in high relief with a mask of the young Silenus amidst fruiting vine. This jug is very well and deeply carved. Lit from the interior it is a striking piece. It is presented on a conforming stepped hexagonal column.
