Three-Piece French Enamelled Glass Garniture, Attributed to Baccarat
Regular price
$0.00 CAD
This garniture is painted with birds and flowers on a pale blue ground. The oblong footed bowl has a shaped gilt rim ,with white jewelling and centering palmettes. The flanking vases have crenellated rims and decoration that match the central bowl.
This garniture is outstanding in two ways:
The blue color is very much within the range of other known examples from Baccarat. It is an especially delicate shade of a sort associated with the famous atelier.
Secondly, the painting is really outstanding; Ornithological studies carefully drawn and coloured, amidst leaves ,blossoms, grasses and wild flowers, painted by a very competent hand in the Japonaise style so fashionable at that time. I think that one artist painted the birds while another did the plants, each contributing his best to this stunning display. The gilding and raised white jewelling are delicate, tastefully restrained and harmonious.
For these reasons we think they are from Baccarat; they are not signed.
