This fine French clock, in an arched verde antico marble case, is set with a bas relief panel depicting Homer. The declaiming blind poet carries his lyre, a young boy leading him. It is boldly framed in bronze and with a crisp broad acanthus band at the rectangular plinth and raised on short cabriole feet. The barrel-shaped movement is marked Vingenti and with the number 1855 in a stamp. The dial, with Roman numerals, is in excellent condition. The glass crystal is finely beveled, the blued steel hands are Breuget style.
