Standing on a trefoil base, and scrolling foot, the plate-glass circular top stands on three curved supports carved as stylised feathers, braced at the top by an annular band. This is a highly unusual form but has much in common with other Pistono pieces we have seen.
Louis Pistono (1888-1976) had a long working life and seemed particularly to flourish in the 1950s. He undertook commissions from several prominent Quebec families including Trudeau , Desmarais and Simard and also for Cormier, the architect..
In the 1970s his work appeared at auction frequently and sold modestly. There is a revival of interest in the work of this ebeniste.
