This pair of lamps are quite unlike any we have seen before. Each base is turned in three tapering sizes, supporting an elaborate fret-carved pedestal on which is seated the base of the lamp itself. Countersunk in the base is a tole drip-pan. Each pear-shaped glass shade has a metal mount. The bases are painted in red and brown on a pale green ground.
This pair came from a Montreal family prominent in the support of local artisans. Every surface is painted so it is impossible to know what the wood is. The palette is very reminiscent of Gouda Pottery from the 1920s and later. These have been made with great care and competance by a skilled craftsman.
