It was made to Stand on a grand dining table. the six frosted and cut lead crystal bowls filled with fruit, nestled around the beautifully cut central bowl. The scrolling arms support leafy holders. Raised on three scrolling feet, the edge of the round base is pierced with shells and scrolling acanthus. The lobed stem is hand-chased at the base, and become a gently swelling reeded stem. In addition to the leafy motif there is a cast applied band of fierce lion heads. Curiously, it is entirely unmarked, except that each arm is marked to go in one particular position on the base plate and no other The silver plate shows little sign of wear. This has been hand finished to the highest standard by a highly skilled craftsman. Though unmarked it is of the quality of a major maker such as Elkington.
It came from a prominent family in Newfoundland.
