Continental Sterling Vesta Case Modeled as a Shoe
This is a rare example. We have not been able to discover any other. This has the striker pad under the sole; and a hinged cover. The overall decoration is profuse with cherubs, figures, landscapes etc. In addition to the rubbed marks it has British import marks for 1896. We believe it is German.
Vesta cases are small portable boxes made to contain matches and keep them dry. They take their name from the Roman goddess of fire and the hearth.
