A set of eight English antique mahogany dining chairs, each with rope-carved splat, moulded top-rail and with delicately turned and ribbed front legs. The stuffover seats are upholstered in yellow faux leather. There are six side chairs and two carvers. These chairs are Regency period and date from the early part of the 19th century. They have an especially good colour and patina, mellow and deep. Although there is no question in my mind that these are of the period they are also later marked "Made in England". I can only think that this was perhaps an export requirement at some stage. There are sign of wear and minor repair commensurate with their age. Chairs turned and carved like this are rather uncommon and go especially well with pedestal dining tables that are often similarly carved.
