Edne Samson was famous for his imitations of other factories and has become collectible in his own right. Here he has produced a pierced cover on a ginger jar shape, painted in a Chinese export style in puce, lattice and polychrome, and marked with cheerful insouciance with a bogus oriental mark. In principal such an item could contain aromatic dried flowers or herbs or even joss sticks for which suitable holes are provided. Alternately, they are a good stand alone decorative item without sticks or leaves.
