This circular Majolica panel is entirely hand painted and probably dates from the 1920s. It depicts an angel playing a lute. Over his right shoulder is a wing of stylised feathers. Although androgynous, he seems to be more male than female. The border is freely painted with a repeating design of stylised leaves within a green border.
Although it is a sacred subject, this angel has a decidedly secular aural. The back is glazed and raised. This was probably made to set in stucco, the raised ridges would give more grip.
