Pair of French Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze and Crystal Five-Light Girandoles
An elegant pair of antique French Louis XVI bronze and cut lead-crystal girandoles.
We chose this pair for the unusually high quality of the cut lead-crystal ornament although the frame and base are well made too. The beaded candleholders are cast with swags that complement the crystal garlands, the circular base is cast with acanthus. The spire is tapering, faceted and undamaged; you can see the quality in the photograph. More difficult to capture is the sumptuous effect of rosettes, swags balls, (plain and cut) and some large cut pendent drops. This is a good quality pair, with well-chosen ornament. And crisply cast and gilt metalwork. Although they are 19th century, they stand up well to comparison with the 18th century originals.
