With gilt crown-shaped rim, knopped stem and circular base, this unusually large pair retains most of its original gilding. It also retains the original  notched spear pendant prisms.
The primary use of Victorian lusters was ornamentation. These glass objects with their hanging glass or crystal prisms were status symbols. generally sold in pairs, for use as mantle, table or sideboard decorations. They were usually placed where sunlight could catch the glass, bounced off and creates small reflections on the wall. It also creates a rainbow spectrum.
Lustres were fashioned and produced in England and Bohemia.
