Pair of 18th C Italian Carved Limewood Candlesticks, Modelled as Kneel

Technically Angels have wings but these youths seem so angelic in every other respect that we have decided to number them among the heavenly hosts. Each figure genuflects while he holds a candlestick on his knee, and looks heavenward in adoration. The delicately featured face, blond curls and reverent posture combine to produce an image both charming and devotional. The heavy robe is well-carved as are the feet and hands. Each is mounted on an octagonal plinth

This pair are perhaps part of a larger devotional tableau, a Nativity scene or an alter centerpiece of some kind . They are unusually large and in stable condition. They are entirely in as found condition.
