This charming genre figure evokes a version of the Middle East which increasingly must fade into the past. Playing a long -necked stringed instrument, perhaps a kind of oud, dressed in traditional djellaba, he stands on a carpet- draped Dias. The bronze coloured finish is highlighted in gilt. Frequently, these figures are from France, although there are no stamps or markings to confirm this. This is an unusually large example.
